Stock Market Index Trends and Session News Review mid-day March 7, 2013:
The Dow Jones Industrial Average continues to climb higher this week after hitting fresh highs on the last two trading sessions.
Both the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 have tracked higher each session this week. The DJIA closed last session at 14,296.24 and the S&P 500 finished last session higher at 1,541.46. Prior to opening bell this morning, stock futures were higher across the board and stocks were set for another positive open.
As the trading session approached the mid-day mark, the primary U.S. stock composites were posting gains.
In economic news this morning, the Labor Department posted jobless claims numbers. In the latest week, the number of Americans filing first time jobless claims dropped lower to 340,000. This number was less than the 347,000 claims filed the week prior. The claim numbers were better than expected and helped push the index composites higher through the first half of trading today.
Today’s Dow Jones Industrial Average, Nasdaq, S&P 500 Stock Index Review mid-day March 7, 2013: The Dow Jones continues its record setting run and by mid-day today, was higher by .32 percent at 14,341.88. The Nasdaq was higher by .16 percent at 3,227.35 and the S&P 500 was higher at mid-day by .17 percent at 1,544.33.
