Health care reform is taking place in America and changes have been made that affect Medicare in 2011. The Department of Health and Human Services in the United States is working hard to help answer tough questions that relate to Medicare change and the department is a great resource for those seeking information. Recent legislation, The Affordable Care Act, affects Medicare. The Affordable Care Act allows Medicare recipients to receive benefits either through their original Medicare plan or through a Medicare Advantage Plan. One goal of the health care reform is to have better coordination of care and services in and outside of the hospital. Supplemental services such as long-term care, inpatient rehab and hospice care programs are affiliated and finding the programs that work best for your specific situation is intended to be easier.

Currently, Americans are in the midst of open enrollment for Medicare Health or Prescription drug coverage. The review period started on November 15, 2010 and lasts until December 31, 2010. This is a time that those in need can review plans and determine if there are other optional programs that would meet their individualized needs in a more beneficial way. Medicare health and prescription drug plan coverage costs can change on a yearly basis and even if the costs stay the same, one’s finances may have changed. Financial changes with the plan or the recipient are why so many recipients are taking action during this current review period. The Department of Health and Human Services is currently helping people make these changes.
