Posted on | September 5, 2010 | No Comments

American Airlines and Delta Airlines both report an increase in August traffic in 2010. American Airlines reports that August traffic rose 3.1% on gains based from the Latin American routes. Delta reports that air traffic rose in August as well. This would be the third month in a row that Delta Air Lines reported monthly gains compared to the previous year. The report for Delta shows that traffic rose .9 percent and that international traffic rose 4.2%. For American Airlines, domestic travel rose .6 percent and international travel rose 7.1 percent. The Latin American routes revealed that traffic rose 9 percent. AMR share rose 4 cents to close on Friday at $6.35. This close was in the green for the airline up .04 points or .63%. The day’s range was 6.33 – 6.49. Delta share rose .21 points or 1.94%. Delta Air Lines Inc. closed the week at $11.05 and the day’s range was 10.94 – 11.24. Overall, airline stocks moved higher this week and ended a bit higher.

This is great news in the midst of the anxiety and apprehensions over the economy and the economic recovery. Data being produced currently shows that we are experiencing a slow recovery as opposed to a slump back into recessive tendencies. Specifically, the NYSE Arca Airline Index rose 1% to 40.91 points with all but one of its 13 components in the black.
